Ambassador Boucher Visits Maldives

Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President of Maldives,
meets Ambassador Richard Boucher, Assistant
Secretary of State for South and Central Asian
Affairs, and Ambassador Robert Blake in Male'.

Ambassador Richard Boucher, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, visited the Maldives on May 7-8, 2007.  During his visit Ambassador Boucher discussed the reform process, human rights, economic opportunities and the environment with President Gayoom, government ministers, civil society leaders and non-governmental organizations.

On May 7, Ambassador Boucher delivered a speech for the general public entitled "Democratic Stability in the Region" at the Social Center Auditorium.  Click here to view a transcript of the speech.
