The United States Embassy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Drug Rehabilitation Center, and the Raaje Foundation organized a seven-day drama and filmmaking workshop for clients of the Drug Rehabilitation Center in Himmafushi. Hollywood-based actress, filmmaker and producer Constance Tillotson led the program.
Participants worked together in small groups to draft original scripts and screenplays which they then turned into short films. Tillotson coached participants on acting and helped bring their stories to the big screen. The films were showcased at a screening at the Drug Rehabilitation Center the final night of the workshop to clients, their families and media.
Speaking at the closing, the U.S. Embassy’s Director of Press and Cultural Affairs, Jeff Anderson, said. “The films are a powerful depiction of the desire and motivation of recovering drug users to become active members of their communities.” The films can be viewed on the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook Page or by clicking here.
